Lastly the cable, is who I have been recommending for years and if you have an issue with the cable they have been good to help my customers out. If you do use it to send me data, export the data to CSV format under the acquisition menu.

Various other makes have slightly different pin assignments and connector shapes, so find the correct connector pin location on your car for the serial data pin. If you have a old mid 1980's carbureted car with the 12 pin ALDL, you have a 12V ALDL system that works off pin D and you will need to build your own cable, see this WinALDL page.

Just google it and you will find the download and datalogging definition files as well as LOTS of youtube videos on using it. On the standard 12 pin OBDI connector, this will usually be pin M on the 8192 baud rate cars, or pin E on 160 baud rate US domestic cars. However, TTS Datamaster is no longer available and with WINALDL difficult to use on newer laptops, most are now going with TUNERPRO RT which has lots of support.

Reason I utilize the different versions instead of 4.0 for everything is that software only allows 20 free uses and its not the cheapest software. I have used the earlier versions but really the procedure to run was too difficult to recommend. To run with Vista, 7 or 8 you need to use version 4.0 off the TTSpowersystems website. The other program TTS Datamaster is for the 8192 baud systems used in 91-95 4L80E transmission trucks, 93-95 4L60E transmission trucks, 90-92 speed density TPI computer systems and a few others. software hasn’t been updated in years so it requires a little tweaking to the intstallation method to work with Vista, 7 or 8 operating systems. The early 160 Baud TBI systems prior to 1993 and some 1993-1995 5spd ECM’s which were 160 Baud, we use a program called WINALDL from Jonas Bylund. I have sub menu items for the software and cable to do this datalogging with your OBD1 (prior to 1996) GM vehicle.įirst is the software and 2 programs that I recommend and which to use has to do with the OBD1 vehicles ECM/PCM computer type. More than once I have gone through adjusting the programming on the chip just to find out the o2 sensor was bad screwing up that data or that the customer had the wrong spark plugs for the heads they were using. I also typically like to look at a couple spark plug pictures along with that data so that I can make sure the computer is adjusting the fuel correctly. This tool will allow you to record sensor data while you drive the vehicle around and email me that file which I can play back and help you determine what is wrong. These days, most customers build setups very similar to one of my projects or one of my posted customers projects to avoid a lot of headaches. I find that windows XP works best but with a little work you can run with Vista, 7 or even 8 if you can get around that metro mess. This cable is intended to be used with cars and trucks using GM ECM/PCMs originally equipped with 12 pin ALDL connectors in the 1982 to 1995 era. Datalogging is using a laptop with darn near any flavor of windows. ALDL OBD1 Cable Instructions This package includes an ALDL Cable w/ OBD1 12 pin connector.
